Volunteering

Volunteers make the difference!

Our organization got its start in 1972 with the formation of the Five Valleys River Park Association, a group of concerned citizen volunteers that worked quietly, but effectively, for more than fifteen years to protect much of what has become the system of riverfront parks and functional riparian habitat that the community enjoys today.  That volunteer spirit and commitment to the organization continues to grow, helping to enhance and strengthen our land conservation and education projects.  The success that Five Valleys Land Trust has had in protecting western Montana’s natural legacy is thanks in large part to our tremendous team of supporters and volunteers!  A special thank you to all of the volunteers who have given their time and energy over and over again to help Five Valleys reach our conservation goals.

Volunteer Opportunities:

We seek your enthusiasm, ideas, and expertise because volunteer service is so vital to Five Valleys’ conservation efforts.  Your contribution of time is important and valued by Five Valleys whether you volunteer for one hour, one day, or on a more regular basis.  With or without specific skills, we’ll try to find the best fit for your time and interest level! Here are a few suggested areas where you might consider lending a much needed hand:

General office help: We need people to come in on a regular basis to help with odds and ends such as errands, filing, computer work, research, phone calls, mailings, and all sorts of various administrative tasks.  It might not always be the most glamorous work, but it is a critical part of our organization and makes a big difference.

Annual Banquet: Five Valleys hosts an annual fundraising banquet in May with planning beginning in Dec./Jan. of each year.  Banquet volunteers can join the committee which meets every other week to plan, coordinate, and secure items from local businesses for the raffle, silent and live auctions.  Or volunteers can help as we approach the banquet with office tasks, making creative art displays, and preparations the day of the banquet.  This is a fun event and we often need folks to help sell raffle tickets, show auction items, sell wine, etc.  The tremendous success that the auction has always been has a lot to do with the great crew of volunteers that lend a hand.

Hands on the Land: Thanks to our volunteers, this hands-on program has been successful in restoring and enhancing the conservation values of some of lands which Five Valleys Land Trust holds conservation easements on.  Each year we seek the help of volunteers to complete 2 to 4 work projects in group workdays that not only accomplish a lot of work, but are filled with fun and opportunities to learn the “how to’s” and reasons why such restoration projects are important.  Along with great scenery and company, lunch is provided for Hands on the Land volunteers.  To learn more about this program click here.
