Last summer, you helped us celebrate the grand opening of the Barmeyer Trail. This June, help us celebrate National Trails Day as you explore the landscape of the southern side of Mount Dean Stone, and see all that this side of the mountain has to offer.
Meet us at the Missoula Fresh Market south beginning at 8:30am and catch a shuttle to a variety of great activities:
Long Run – Join Run Wild Missoula for a three hour tour of Mount Dean Stone’s landscape. This 15-mile trek will climb and descend nearly 3,000ft on old logging roads. Please plan on carrying what you need for a run like this!
Short Run – Not up for a long run? Run Wild Missoula will lead a shorter, out-and-back run from the Little Park Creek trailhead.
Thinning Project – Help steward Mount Dean Stone by getting a little dirt beneath your nails! MTB Missoula and members of the Mount Dean Stone Committee Natural Resources Working Group will lead a forest health project near the Inez Creek trail head. Tools will be provided, but if you've got a favorite pair of loppers or handsaw, feel free to bring it along. Please also come dressed for a few hours of work.
Naturalist Hike – Interested in all the critters, plants, and birds that call Mount Dean Stone home? Backcountry Hunters and Anglers and biologists from MPG Ranch and Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks will lead a naturalist hike to learn about some of the area’s unique habitat types. Please wear sturdy shoes, and bring your own naturalist gear (notebook, binoculars, etc.).
Bike Ride – Come imagine the future of Misoula's trail network! MTB Missoula will lead a group ride from the parking lot of the Missoula Fresh Market on Reserve Street. Plan on riding around 35 miles on paved roads and dirt trails and climbing around 3,000 ft.
National Trails Day celebration – Celebrate National Trails Day and the Mount Dean Stone project by joining us for lunch, fun, and the REI Co-op backcountry lounge, at Little Park Creek. Color your own trucker hat, play some corn hole, explore the landscape and enjoy Five on Black bowls for lunch starting at 12:00pm.
All shuttles will depart from the Missoula Fresh Market on Reserve parking lot. Please arrive 15 minutes early to catch your shuttle. All activities will meet at Little Park Creek for lunch before shuttling back to town.
