Landowners

Cultivating relationships with landowners is one of the joys of our work. Every day we meet extraordinary people with rich stories of working the land or of coming to Montana to have their slice of heaven. And whether they are fifth generation ranchers or part-time residents, one thing binds them. They care about this place so much they want to see it remain as it is today.

At Five Valleys Land Trust, we have a deep respect for these people, many of who forgo certain financial gain for a something they deem more important — an intact landscape and sense of place.

We work with landowners in a variety of ways to help them exercise the right to protect their places and to continue to make a living from their land. Creating conservation easements, assessing conservation values, providing direct funding assistance, undertaking stewardship projects and working with government funding sources are just a few of the services we provide.

As we work with landowners, there are two things we never forget. First, the property is theirs and as such it’s an important part of who they are. Second, our work connects us to landowners in perpetuity. Five Valleys Land Trust is bound by law to monitor conservation easements forever.

That shared responsibility and understanding binds our organization not only to the land, but also to the people who carry on the tradition of working and living on it into the future.
