Bitterroot Valley Easement Completed

On Thursday December 29th the Downey family of Corvallis committed to keep their 160-acre ranch along Willow Creek in active agriculture, while also protecting their noteworthy riparian habitat and open space. Five Valleys Land Trust presented detailed funding applications to the Ravalli County Open Lands Board and the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program in order to purchase a bargain sale conservation easement on the Downey’s Triple J Bar Ranch. Five Valleys found out in late spring that both funding applications were accepted. With this good news, the Downeys and Five Valleys began the important work of finalizing a conservation easement to create permanent protection for the rich agricultural soils and wildlife habitat of the Triple J Bar Ranch.
