Waste not want not:

90% of the demolition waste was salvaged for reuse or recycled.

  • Insulation and framing lumber was donated to Home Resource.
  • Metal siding is being recycled and reused locally.
  • Aluminum window frames are being recycled.
  • Copper wire is being recycled.

Adaptive reuse of the existing building retains the original warehouse building's  foundation, timber frame, roof and walls.

New siding will include the extensive use of durable, low maintenance recycled content steel siding.

Light on carbon and light on the monthly budget:

Walls:

The building will feature R28 cellulose insulation made from recycled newsprint in the walls.  Exterior walls are designed to minimize thermal bridging without the use of petrochemical based foam board this increases the insulations effectiveness an additional 30%.

Windows:

Windows by Serious Energy featuring insulated fiberglass frames  and an average R value of 5.6 are being used throughout the building. These windows double energy star requirements and are the most energy efficient windows made in North America.

Roof:

Ceiling insulation will exceed energy code for new construction by over 25%

HVAC:

The building will feature 92% efficient heating and cooling equipment and this equipment could be downsized due to the superior building insulation and windows.
