Video: Mount Dean Stone

For the last 45 years Five Valleys has been working hand in hand with communities across western Montana to protect the special places you love.

In Missoula, the South Hills Spur project snowballed into a gateway for our most ambitious project ever: Mount Dean Stone, and the opportunity to double Missoula’s open space.

As board member Mike Foote said, “There’s so much value for the community in having these public spaces. I think about what Missoula would be like without Mount Sentinel, Mount Jumbo, and the North Hills. I would love if in ten years people wonder, ‘What would Missoula have been like without Mount Dean Stone?’ It’s an ambitious project, but it’s worth it.”

When completed the Mount Dean Stone project will protect 4,200 acres on the urban fringe, expand recreational trails and public access, and complete a 180-degree arc of conservation lands around Missoula. Check out our latest project update, which includes current public access information and ways to contribute to this once-in-a-generation project!
